Fetch Database

bcerciliar-rocketman edited this page Sep 13, 2026 · 2 revisions

This tool reads a single value that another RCC tool has stored on the Mac, and prints it to standard output. It is meant to be captured inside a script or a Jamf Pro Extension Attribute:

value=$(rocketman FetchDatabase --tool EditUserProfile --key assetTag)

The tool only ever reads. It never writes, and never changes anything on the device.

Command Options

rocketman FetchDatabase

Required Parameters

--tool [string]

The tool whose stored values you want to read.

  • Type: string
  • Supported values: EditUserProfile
  • Example:
    --tool "EditUserProfile"

--table is the former name of this option. It still works so existing scripts keep running, but it is deprecated — use --tool in anything new.

--key [string]

Which value to read. This is either a field name, or the ID of a Jamf Pro Extension Attribute.

  • Type: string
  • Field names: assetTag, username, email, computerName, room, position, selectedBuilding, selectedDepartment, selectedSite, fullName
  • Example:
    --key "username"
    --key "247"

Behaviour worth knowing

  • Nothing stored yet means no output. If the tool named by --tool has not stored anything on this Mac, or the key does not exist, nothing is printed and the reason is written to the log at /var/log/tech.rocketman.rcc.log. Have your script handle an empty result.
  • An unsupported --tool value prints nothing and logs that the tool is not supported.
  • Only the value is printed to standard output, so $( ) captures exactly the value and nothing else.

JSON Scheme

This tool is designed to be called inline from a script, so it takes its options on the command line rather than from a managed preference. There is no configuration profile schema for it.
