Overflow is an experimental, local-first iOS app for turning captured ideas into focused action without requiring users to decompose every item into prescribed micro-steps.
The project is being designed around lived ADHD experience, with an emphasis on reducing initiation friction while avoiding judgment, productivity scores, punitive streaks, or unsupported psychological conclusions.
- Today presents a factual summary of locally recorded activity.
- Inspirations provides a searchable capture list with editing, deletion, undo, and direct entry into Focus.
- Focus starts from an existing Inspiration, defaults to 25 minutes, persists active sessions across backgrounding and process termination, and keeps the active session visible above the tab bar.
- Reflections optionally records launch resistance, mood, and energy on independent five-point scales.
- Focus completion and Inspiration completion remain separate decisions.
- Early exit uses a visible hold-to-confirm interaction with an accessibility action that does not require continuous pressing.
All user data is stored locally with SwiftData. Overflow currently has no account system, analytics SDK, cloud service, or AI-generated interpretation.
- Xcode 27 beta or newer
- iOS 26 or newer
- Swift 5
The iOS 27 build uses a prominent Focus tab. iOS 26 uses a standard labeled tab.

Command-line build without code signing:
xcodebuild build \
-project Overflow.xcodeproj \
-scheme Overflow \
-sdk iphonesimulator \
-configuration Debug \
CODE_SIGNING_ALLOWED=NOThe repository contains Swift Testing unit tests and XCTest UI tests for the data model, Focus session lifecycle, Today summary, navigation, and accessibility naming.
xcodebuild test \
-project Overflow.xcodeproj \
-scheme Overflow \
-destination 'platform=iOS Simulator,name=iPhone 17 Pro,OS=27.0' \
CODE_SIGNING_ALLOWED=NOOverflow is under active development. The core MVP is implemented, while Focus visual direction and final cross-device visual acceptance are still being refined. Screen Time integration is intentionally outside the current MVP.
