More Information

Shows a Brother laser printer in HomeKit, read locally over SNMP (no cloud, no account): printing state (occupancy sensor), a Problem contact sensor for jams / open cover / empty tray / errors, toner level as a battery with Home's low-battery alert, and No Response while the printer is unreachable. Optional toner-level tile and drum-life battery; page count as a custom characteristic.

Comparison with the verified homebridge-printer (IPP): on many Brother printers the standard Printer MIB and IPP only report toner as "some remaining" (-3), so IPP-based plugins can't show a level. This plugin decodes Brother's private MIB records (brInfoMaintenance / brInfoCounter / brInfoNextCare), which carry the same toner and drum percentages as the printer's web page. It also adds problem detection (hrPrinterDetectedErrorState plus the display text) surfaced as a contact sensor, since Home doesn't display StatusFault on sensors, and real No Response handling.

  • Dynamic platform, settings screen via config.schema.json (validates cleanly, including the blank row the UI adds).
  • Node 18 / 20 / 22 / 24, Homebridge 1.6+ and 2.x. Tested on Homebridge 2.5 with Node 22 and 24, as a child bridge.
  • Verified against a real MFC-L2750DW; tests include its actual SNMP output and a fake SNMP agent replaying it.
  • One runtime dependency (net-snmp). No post-install scripts, no files written to disk.
  • Each version gets a GitHub release with notes; v0.1.4 is the first public release.

Update: 0.2.0 and 0.2.1 are out (releases, npm). 0.2.1 fixes the settings screen grouping so each printer's fields edit one entry.
