🌊 Drift

The Stealth Activity Engine for Focused Creators.

Drift is a lightweight, cross-platform background utility designed to keep your system active while simulating natural, human-like behavior. Built with Tauri and Rust, it runs as a "ghost" application—completely windowless and hidden from your Dock/Taskbar—managed entirely through a minimalist system tray icon.

🧠 Why Drift?

In an era of digital monitoring, being "idle" is often incorrectly equated with being "unproductive." Drift solves this by maintaining a natural activity level so you can step away from your machine without triggering sleep modes or "Away" statuses.

Key Features

  • 👻 Ghost Mode: No window, no Dock icon (macOS), no clutter. It lives in your tray.
  • 🌊 Tide Governor: Unlike simple "jigglers," Drift oscillates activity levels between 15% and 95% using randomized waves to mimic real human focus cycles.
  • ✍️ Humanized Input:
    • Bézier Curves: Mouse movements follow smooth, non-linear paths with Gaussian noise.
    • Phantom Keypresses: Simulates invisible modifier keys (like Shift) to keep the system awake without affecting your documents.
  • 📋 Behavioral Profiles: Switch between Developer, Designer, Manager, or Reader modes to match your specific work style.
  • 🛡️ Stealth Architecture: Neutral process naming and low resource footprint.

🛠 How it Works

The Tide Governor

The core of Drift is the Tide Engine. It manages "Intensity" levels that ebb and flow over time:

  1. Deep Focus (80-100%): High frequency of complex actions.
  2. Working (55-75%): Steady, rhythmic activity.
  3. Cruising (35-50%): Low-intensity maintenance.
  4. Coasting (15-30%): Minimal, periodic interaction.

The engine automatically transitions between these states using a Randomized Wave pattern, ensuring no two hours of activity look the same to a time tracker.

Human-Like Mouse Movement

Drift doesn't just "jump" the cursor. It calculates a cubic Bézier path from Point A to Point B, injects jitter, and varies the speed based on Gaussian distributions—identical to how a human hand moves a mouse.

🚀 Getting Started

Prerequisites

Local Development

  1. Clone the repository:
    git clone https://github.com/your-username/drift.git
    cd drift
  2. Install dependencies:
    npm install
  3. Run in development mode:
    npm run tauri dev

🍎 macOS Permissions

Because Drift interacts with system-level input, you must grant it Accessibility Permissions:

  1. Open System Settings.
  2. Navigate to Privacy & Security > Accessibility.
  3. Add/Toggle Drift (or your Terminal if running in dev mode).

🤝 Contributing

We welcome contributions to make Drift even more human!

  1. Fork the Project.
  2. Create your Feature Branch (git checkout -b feature/AmazingFeature).
  3. Commit your Changes (git commit -m 'Add some AmazingFeature').
  4. Push to the Branch (git push origin feature/AmazingFeature).
  5. Open a Pull Request.

Areas for Contribution:

  • Adaptive Scheduling: Auto-pause during lunch or post-work hours.
  • Smart Detection: Detect if a real user is active and yield control.
  • Custom Patterns: Create more behavioral profiles (e.g., "Gamer", "Researcher").
