Restore IETF Tags When a Misnamed Matroska File Remuxes Through FFmpeg - #1162
Fixes the gap #1159 describes. RemuxByExtension() runs before the media props are read, so it passes no track list to Convert.ReMuxToMkv(). When a Matroska file sits under a ReMuxExtensions extension such as .avi, the MkvMerge remux fails, and the FFmpeg fallback succeeds, the IETF language tags were then lost.
Convert.ReMuxToMkv() reads the input's MkvMerge track list inside the FFmpeg fallback when the caller passed none. The existing IsContainerMkv() gate then decides the restore, so a non-Matroska input still gets none. The input is unchanged until ReplaceInput(), so reading it after the rewrite is safe, and a file MkvMerge remuxes pays no extra identify.
RemuxByExtension() is the only caller that passes no track list. The other full remux callers pass MkvMergeProps, so they are unchanged.
A misnamed Matroska file on this path now fails closed when the rewritten tracks no longer match, the same contract Restore IETF Language Tags After Every FFmpeg or HandBrake Rewrite #1152 gives every other Matroska rewrite. With DeleteInvalidFiles on, that failed file is deleted like any other failed file.
ARCHITECTURE.md draws the read in the ReMuxToMkv() flowchart and states that the restore reads the original input's track list.
No HISTORY line: the 3.23 entry already says an FFmpeg or HandBrake rewrite of an MKV file restores the IETF tags.
RemuxByExtension_FfMpegFallback_RestoresLanguageOnlyForMatroska replaces the test that asserted no restore on this path. The input identifies as Matroska (restored) or AVI (not restored). The Matroska case fails when the fallback read is removed.
Full suite: 492 passed, 0 failed.
Review
A local strict review pass covers this head. The first pass moved the track list read from an eager read in RemuxByExtension() into the fallback, which drops the duplicate container check. The later passes fixed one ARCHITECTURE.md sentence and found nothing more.
Language tags are restored from the original input after an FFmpeg fallback when the input is Matroska and its track information can be read. Other formats, such as AVI, do not trigger Matroska-specific tag restoration.
If reading track information is canceled during the remux process, the operation stops and removes its temporary output.
Documentation
Updated the remux workflow documentation to clarify when track information is read and used for language-tag restoration.
RemuxByExtension() passed no track list, so the FFmpeg fallback could not restore the IETF tags of a Matroska file under a ReMuxExtensions extension.

The FFmpeg remux fallback now reads media properties from the original input when none were supplied. The Matroska-only check uses those properties for language-tag restoration. Tests cover Matroska and AVI inputs, plus failed Matroska identification.

Summary
Fallback property lookup and restoration PlexCleaner/Convert.cs, ARCHITECTURE.md
When languageProps is null, ReMuxToMkv reads media properties from the original input. If that read fails while cancellation is requested, the method deletes the temporary file and returns false. The documentation describes the lookup and restoration flow.
A parameterized test checks that restoration occurs for Matroska input when identification succeeds. It also checks that restoration does not occur for AVI input or when Matroska identification fails.

High-Level Assessment
Reading properties inside the fallback is the narrowest approach: it handles the sole caller without preloaded tracks, reuses the existing Matroska gate and track validation, and avoids identifying files successfully remuxed by MkvMerge. Eager identification in RemuxByExtension was considered but would add work to the successful first-attempt path.

1. Failed identification strips language tags 🐞 Bug≡ Correctness
Description
The new GetMediaProps conditional leaves languageProps null when identification fails, so
ReMuxToMkv skips RestoreLanguageTags and still calls ReplaceInput. If identification of a
misnamed Matroska input fails or is cancelled after the FFmpeg fallback succeeds, the rewritten file
can replace the original without its IETF language tags.
GetMediaProps returns false when identify execution or parsing fails, and tool cancellation also
returns false. The added conditional then leaves the properties null; the restoration guard is false
and the method replaces the input. The earlier fallback tool failures, by contrast, return before
replacement.

## Recommended Fix
When `languageProps` is null, require `GetMediaProps` to succeed before continuing. If it fails, delete the temporary output and return false; retain the existing Matroska check for a successful read.

Answered in the thread on PlexCleaner/Convert.cs (#1162 (comment)). d80695f fails the remux when a cancel stops the track read. A plain identify failure keeps the FFmpeg fallback, since MkvMerge failing to read the input is the ordinary reason that fallback runs.

Add a test for a failed identify on the Matroska fallback path.
RemuxByExtension_FfMpegFallback_RestoresLanguageOnlyForMatroska answers every --identify call successfully, so the branch where GetMediaProps returns false is not exercised. In that branch, languageProps stays null, the restore step is skipped, and the FFmpeg output replaces the input. Add a case where the identify call fails for the Matroska input. Assert that the output is committed and that no property-edit call runs for it. Update that expectation if the intended handling for a failed identify changes.

Assert the restored language value in the FFmpeg fallback test.
The test asserts only that name.tmp2 appears in the MkvPropEdit log. The input and output identify data share one track list, so tags restored from the output tracks would pass every assertion.
Give one input track a language_ietf value that differs from the sample value. Keep that track's ISO language unchanged. RestoreLanguageTags compares only the track number, type, and ISO language, so the rewrite check still passes. LanguageAny returns the IETF value when it is set, so the expected value is the new tag. Assert that the log contains --edit track:@{N} --set language={tag}, following the pattern at ReplaceOriginalTests.cs:121.

Add a test for a failed identify on the Matroska fallback path.
Assert the restored language value in the FFmpeg fallback test.
Both are fixed in 79ff2c3. RemuxByExtension_FfMpegFallback_RestoresLanguageOnlyForMatroska has a Matroska case whose input identify exits 2, which asserts the output is committed with no MkvPropEdit call. Only the input's audio track now carries language_ietfen-GB, and the restored case asserts --edit track:@<number> --set language=en-GB. Pointing the fallback read at the FFmpeg output instead of the input fails all three cases.

Add a test for the cancelled abort after failed identification.
When cancellation is requested after GetMediaProps fails, the cancel branch in ReMuxToMkv deletes the temporary file and returns false. No test sets the cancel state. The three RemuxByExtension_FfMpegFallback_RestoresLanguageOnlyForMatroska rows pass with or without this branch, so removing it would not be detected.
Add a separate test that requests cancellation after the identify step fails. Assert that:
the temporary output file is deleted,
the input file is not replaced,
the original input file still exists.
Program.Cancel() cannot be undone for the process. Isolate this test so that it cannot affect other tests.

Add a test for the cancelled abort after failed identification.
Declining. Program.Cancel() cancels s_cancelSource, a static readonly CancellationTokenSource in PlexCleaner/Program.cs that nothing resets. The xUnit suite runs every test class in one process. So a test that cancels would leave every later test in the run cancelled, and the suite has no process-isolation harness to contain it. The two existing cancel branches in Convert.ReMuxToMkv(), after the MkvMerge and FFmpeg remux failures, are untested for the same reason. This branch follows the same shape as those: delete the temp file and return false.
@ptr727 Understood. I will not pursue this test request.
I confirmed that Program.Cancel() cancels the process-wide static readonly source in PlexCleaner/Program.cs. I found no reset call. An in-process test would leave that source cancelled for later tests.
The new branch in Convert.ReMuxToMkv() deletes the temporary file and returns false, consistent with the existing cancellation paths. Adding test isolation or changing cancellation ownership is not necessary for this PR.
