Senior Platform & Founding Engineer @ RunWhen
Cloud-native architecture, DevOps, automation — 20+ years owning production systems from carrier networks to AI platforms.
Keeping things running since the days when a "deployment" meant driving to a colo with a CD. Started on the network floor at British Telecom, moved through architecture and consulting, spent the last decade building cloud-native platforms for government and enterprise. Currently building RunWhen — an AI automation platform that turns recurring engineering work into shared tasks agents can surface or run automatically.
Based in Tiny, Ontario (yes, that's the real township name). Ships from a forest near Georgian Bay — among the trees is a nice place to be.
| Built | Consulted on | Talked about |
|---|---|---|
| Systems that automate other systems | Platform architecture & strategy | Agentic ops & AI-assisted SRE |
| Self-hosted deployment paths for regulated environments | Cloud migrations (AWS/GCP/Azure) | DevOps culture & team enablement |
| GitOps pipelines (ArgoCD, Terraform) | Fractional platform leadership | Conference talks & workshops |
| AI-assisted engineering tools & MCP servers | Building systems that scale | Explaining tech so people use it |

RunWhen — Founding Engineer · 2021–present
Accountable for core platform engineering — infrastructure, release management, security automation, SRE, and customer delivery. Designed and shipped the self-hosted deployment path for air-gapped regulated environments. Built the public automation library infrastructure (runwhen-contrib). Drove all SaaS, demo, hybrid, and self-hosted onboarding.
BC Government Platforms — via Arctiq · 2016–2021
Helped design and build BC government's OpenShift and DevOps platforms. Reduced application delivery time from months to weeks. Ministries shipping faster → citizens getting services faster.
Cancer Care Ontario — via Zentra · 2007–2011
Implemented systems supporting wait-time tracking. The kind of project where the payoff is a family getting through a hard week.
Arctiq — Founding Partner · 2016–2021
Co-founded and grew a services-only consulting firm from 5 founders to 20+ people and ~$10M in revenue over five years. Led cloud migrations, Kubernetes/OpenShift platforms, and coached engineers on delivering client projects. Acquired by DynTek.
Scalar Decisions / CDW — Solution Architect & Systems Engineer · 2012–2016
Led a national team of solution architects. Designed and deployed infrastructure, datacenter, and cloud architectures across Canada.
British Telecom — Technical Services Engineer · 2004–2005
Maintained Canadian PoP sites. 24/7 second-level support. Started here. Learned that everything breaks at 3am and nobody documents the fix.
I've used a lot of tools over 20+ years. Listing them here feels like a bingo card — and the ones I've forgotten would fill a second card. If you need to know whether I've worked with something specific, ask. The answer is probably yes, or I can be useful within a week.
Currently working with: Kubernetes (GKE), Terraform, Crossplane, FluxCD, GitHub Actions, Python, Go, GCP, Azure, Azure DevOps, AI Foundry, Vertex AI, OpenRouter, LiteLLM, Postgres, Redis/Valkey, Astro, Vercel, Mailgun, Auth0.

These don't show up in the graph above — but they're most of the work.

Trained in improv at Second City Toronto. "Yes, and" turns out to be equally effective for platform architecture and production incidents.
