I’m Luis Chan, a Yale University computational biology graduate with a background spanning biochemistry, data science, machine learning, and life-sciences platforms. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Washington, studying Biochemistry and Data Science, and later earned my MS at Yale in Computational Biology & Bioinformatics.
I’ve worked across protein design, protein ML, healthcare/bioinformatics infrastructure, and client-facing technical solutions — including experience at the Baker Lab / Institute for Protein Design, OpenProtein.AI, Shape Therapeutics, Domino Data Lab, and bioinformatics/AI work supporting NIH-facing workflows.
I’m especially interested in building practical tools at the intersection of biology + ML + product, where strong science, clear software, and real-world usability all matter.
| Project | What it shows |
|---|---|
| RNAseq Insight | Reproducible RNA-seq analysis, differential expression, PCA, FDR control, visualization |
| Clinical Risk Lab | Calibrated healthcare ML, subgroup auditing, explainability, validation and inference |
| Protein Property Predictor | Protein machine learning and life-sciences ML workflows |
When I’m not working on biology or ML, I’m usually doing something competitive or active: soccer, basketball, running, gym, kickboxing/BJJ, chess, or playing the piano. I like problems that reward consistency, strategy, and getting a little better every day.
“The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena.” — Theodore Roosevelt
I like this because it’s a good reminder to choose action, effort, and learning over staying on the sidelines.
